Founder’s Recital ‐ Beginnings Revisited

An intimate recital by Token Creek Festival founders and artistic directors John and Rose Mary Harbison, joined by Karl Lavine, cello. Music of Haydn and Mozart.

Paean to Place ‐ Nature in Poetry & Music

Tuesday, August 25, 4:00 & 7:30 P.M.
4:00 Forum: Finding Lorine Niedecker
A conversation with biographer Margot Peters and composer John Harbison that explores the poetry of “Wisconsin’s Emily Dickinson” and its musical settings. Lorine Niedecker joins us from afar.
6:00 Picnic
The conversation continues over light summer fare at the festival farm.
7:30 Recital: Longing for Place
Pianist Ryan McCullough returns with soprano Lucy Fitz Gibbon in an evocative program of nature-inspired works. Music of Purcell, Athens, Saariaho, Vines, Harbison, and Schumann.

The Lydian Quartet

Thursday, August 27, 8:00 P.M.
Brandeis University’s quartet-in-residence last appeared at Token Creek in 1999, and its return is long overdue. The Lyds’ program reprises two works composed for them: the third quartets of Lee Hyla and John Harbison. Mendelssohn’s ebullient Op. 12 closes our program.

Grand Finale ‐ Buoyant Baroque

Saturday, August 29, 8:00 P.M.
Sunday, August 30, 4:00 P.M.
With the largest performance forces ever to grace our small hall, the season closes with sparkling orchestral highlights of the high Baroque, including Bach’s irrepressible Brandenburg Concerto No. 1.
