Since its founding some 20 years ago, the Chamber Music Society of Minnesota has presented superb and poignant chamber music events, featuring world-renowned guests together with Minnesota’s finest artists. In addition to its subscription concerts, the CMSM presents master classes and workshops by distinguished guest artists. Its annual Northern Lights Chamber Music Institute, the educational arm of the CMSM, convenes at Camp Vermillion in Cook, Minnesota, each August. The St. Paul Pioneer Press described the CMSM as “a jewel in the state’s cultural crown,” and the Minneapolis Star Tribune wrote that “performances by the Chamber Music Society are all too rare.”
With a mission of “Excellence, Education and Outreach,” the Society strives to contribute to the cultural richness of the community and the world through the beauty and vitality of intimate chamber music. CMSM promotes top quality performance of classical and contemporary chamber music to a diverse regional audience; welcomes internationally acclaimed guest artists to perform to teach in Minnesota; commissions and premieres new works by emerging and established composers; cultivates young artists and new audiences through traditional and innovative educational outreach initiatives; collaborates with other community organizations in multi-cultural and multi-media projects and performances; and creates and champions projects that promote peace, harmony and reconciliation among peoples
