Special Event
In a first-time collaboration with the Sun
Prairie Historical Society, this special event will focus on Georgia O’Keeffe and her relationship
to Sun Prairie, Wisconsin and to Santa Fe, New Mexico. The program will
include:
- A presentation by local historian Joe Chase discussing Ms. O’Keeffe’s
early years in Sun Prairie, WI
- A gallery of art work by Georgia O’keeffe
- A presentation on Georgia
O’keeffe’s work and the critically
important role of the Santa Fe landscape and sense of place in her art
- A concert
performance of John Harbison’s Piano Quintet, dedicated
to Georgia O’Keeffe and premiered in her adopted hometown at the Santa
Fe Chamber Music Festival
- A viewing of the video covering that event, with
considerable footage of Ms. O’keeffe discussing the importance of “place” and
interviews with her at the premiere
- A display of memorabilia from the Santa
Fe premiere of the Quintet
- A discussion by John Harbison on the relationship
between his quintet and Ms. O’Keeffe’s work, about her intense
interest in music and how if affected her painting, with stories and anecdotes
about their interactions
- A wrap-up, drawing conclusions about these two artists,
their work, and their intersections in both Sun Prairie, Wisconsin and
Santa Fe, New Mexico
